St. Helens Day Breakers
Serving the Children of the World

    Welcome

Kiwanis Day Breakers of St Helens

Founded in 1988, we are a service organization comprised of men and women
from all walks of life.  We encourage community responsibility through
good citizenship and maintaining livability.  We support our youth,
their families, our disadvantaged, our disabled, and our older citizens.

We are a diverse group of volunteers who help numerous community
programs  through service projects, as well as financial donations.
Our objective is to bring support to children in the community.
The majority of our efforts benefit the children of
St Helens & the surrounding Columbia County.

A portion of the funds we raise go to help meet Kiwanis International
objectives which focus on the special needs of young children from
prenatal development to the age five throughout the world.

Kiwanis Day Breakers of St Helens has once again chosen to share their generosity to benefit the children of the local schools.

The Backpack Program administered from the Methodist Church of St Helens is sharing food for the weekend with 50 children and their siblings at both Lewis Clark Elementary and McBride Elementary School. A check for $375 will be spent locally, as much as possible, to purchase such items as fruit cups, pudding cups, tuna lunch kits, single size cold cereal, single serve oatmeal, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, and other items.  Another check for $375 was given to the St Helens Middle School Special Lunch Fund.  This fund covers various needs of students who are hungry and for various reasons have no food. This very important project has become a Day Breakers commitment.

The photo below shows Leann McCann, the Trojan Cafe' supervisor & Viv Jackson, the head cook.

Roger Barbour of Kiwanis Day Breakers presenting the $375 check to Jodie Whithers, Backpack Program co-coordinator at the Club's August 26th morning meeting.   Roger proposed the idea of supporting the program at a recent board meeting after a presentation to the Club about the program.

Day Breakers current President,Colleen DeLong presenting an additional amount of  $375 to St Helens Middle School Principal Carol Dowsett to support the Middle School's Special Lunch Fund.  Carol and her husband Phillip brought this program to the club's attention.  Both programs are a wonderful way to support children and their families in the community.

The National CPS Certification Training was held at the
Columbia River Fire & Rescue Station in St Helens.

Wednesday, March 13th thru Saturday, March 16th

The new CPS Technicians will put their knowledge to work through a variety of community based activities, including car seat checks where families receive education and hands-on assistance with proper
use of child restraint systems and safety belts.

The new Technician's course combined classroom instruction, hands-on work with car seats and vehicles and a community car seat check-up event.
At the check-up event, students demonstrated skills learned in the classroom, following the event procedures and instructions, teaching parents and caregivers how to properly protect their family on the road.
